Technical Guide: Batch Renaming for Large Assemblies (>10,000 Components) in Intellikit
2026-03-02 11:55

Intellikit is a high-efficiency SOLIDWORKS add-in suite developed by ICT (Intelligent Computer Technology). Built on extensive user feedback, it integrates seamlessly into the SOLIDWORKS platform to streamline daily design workflows.

The Challenge

When dealing with massive assemblies containing over 10,000 components, exporting the entire structure to Excel for renaming can be time-consuming. Often, users only need to rename a specific subset of parts rather than the entire project.

Solution: Optimized Workflow for Large-Scale Renaming

To speed up the process and focus only on the components that require modification, follow these steps:

Step A: Isolate Target Components

  1. Select the specific sub-assemblies or parts you wish to rename (hold Ctrl for multiple selections).

  2. Pro Tip: If the number of parts you don't need to rename is smaller, select those instead, then right-click and choose "Invert Selection."

  3. Right-click and select Hide to conceal all components that do not require renaming.

Step B: Unload Hidden Components

  1. At the top-level assembly in the FeatureManager design tree, right-click and select "Unload Hidden Components."

  2. This removes the unnecessary data from active memory, significantly boosting the performance of the renaming tool.

Step C: Execute Batch Rename

  1. Launch the Intellikit Batch Rename feature and export the active (loaded) components to an Excel spreadsheet.

  2. Define the new names within the Excel file.

  3. Import the updated Excel file back into the Batch Rename Assistant and run the process to apply the changes.

Summary

By filtering and unloading unnecessary components before exporting, you can drastically reduce processing time and minimize errors in large-scale data management.
